Keep Care in the Family- with Professional Guidance from GENS Nurses
Imagine this:
Mom’s health has changed. She needs daily care — medications, an IV antibiotic, a feeding tube, maybe even a catheter or ostomy care. The family wants her home, comfortable, and surrounded by love.
Her daughter works part-time. Her granddaughter takes college classes online and is home most days. And her daughter-in-law is happy to help a few days a week. (Even a family friend or church acquaintance.)
Here’s how GENS makes that possible:
When you call GENS Living, we send an experienced Registered Nurse to become your family’s designated RN.
That nurse will:
-
Complete a professional assessment of your loved one’s needs
-
Develop a personalized care plan
-
Teach and supervise each family caregiver — step-by-step — in the specific skills needed to safely care for your loved one at home
-
Stay involved through ongoing check-ins and support
From feeding tubes to catheter care, ostomy care, dressing changes, and medication management, your RN makes sure every family member feels competent, confident, and supported. Doctors orders are required for all extensive cares outside of basic ADLs such as dressing, bathing, and incontinence care.
And here’s the best part:
In many cases, Michigan’s Home Help Program can pay family members for assisting with personal care and daily living activities. That means you can keep Mom at home, reduce outside care costs, and still receive compensation for the time and love you give.
At GENS, we believe families — with the right training and nursing oversight — can provide beautiful, safe, and affordable care at home.

How can we help?
About the Founder
Michigan born and raised, our founder has devoted her life to compassionate, dignified care for older adults. Her journey in healthcare began at just 17 years old, working in assisted living facilities where she quickly fell in love with the geriatric population. With the support of Michigan Works, she became a Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) in 2010 and began working in skilled nursing facilities, where she developed a deep respect for the wisdom and resilience of older adults.
In 2014, she advanced her education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) through Everest Institute in Grand Rapids—completing an accelerated, highly demanding one-year program. Over the next several years, she gained extensive experience in skilled nursing and rehabilitation care, helping individuals recover from surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, strokes, and other medical events requiring close nursing support. In 2022, she earned her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Kellogg Community College and became a Registered Nurse (RN). She later continued her education and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Spring Arbor University in 2025.
Her career has spanned multiple settings, including psychiatric care and long-term acute care hospitals (LTAC), where she regularly manages complex cases involving IV therapy, wound care, and high-acuity medical needs. While she values every step of her journey, her heart has always remained with the geriatric population—especially those striving to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes.
The Heart Behind GENS
GENS was born from both professional experience and personal loss.
After her grandfather—diagnosed with dementia—was placed in a nursing home when home care options seemed impossible, she saw firsthand how limited families’ choices can feel. Despite her family’s love and dedication, the system offered no middle ground between “doing it all yourself” and “handing everything over.”
That experience inspired her to create a better way. GENS exists to restore control, choice, and dignity to families.
Under the GENS model, families can choose their own caregivers—whether that’s a trusted family member, friend, church acquaintance, or professional aide—and a registered nurse provides the oversight, training, and guidance needed to ensure safe, high-quality care. In Michigan, programs often allow family members to be paid caregivers, making this model not only compassionate but cost-effective.
This approach removes the corporate layers, rotating staff, and cold environments that too often strip care of its humanity. With GENS, families stay in charge, care stays personal, and elders stay home—where they belong.
